A "Convenience Fee" is assessed on payments when a citizen chooses to use their credit/debit card for payment. A Convenience fee is being assessed because Jefferson County is not authorized to absorb the transaction fees for those citizens that CHOOSE to use their cards for payment. Jefferson County is not involved in any way in the assessment or collection of the convenience fee. This fee is assessed and collected by our service provider. All transaction fees are disclosed to the cardholder at time of transaction with the option to decline the payment processing.
